Our History

Hartfiel Automation was founded May 1st, 1958, by Bill Hartfiel.

In 1995, we {Hartfiel Automation} expanded our primarily pneumatic product offering to include Motion Control and Robotics. In addition to our long-time core Product lines of Mac Valves and PHD, Inc., we added key product lines like Cutler-Hammer, Yamaha Robotics, Kollmorgen (Fortive), Schneider (IMS), and ultimately B&R. We also added sensor and vision products such as Balluff, Sick, Teledyne Dalsa, Murrelektronik, and Canfield.

From 1958 to 2002, Hartfiel Automation had only (1) Office in the Minneapolis suburb of Eden Prairie, MN. From that Office, we covered (4) States: Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and part of western Wisconsin (for limited products).
In 2002, we purchased MidStates Motion, an MDN Partner like us headquartered in Des Moines, IA, and serving Iowa and Nebraska. That became our Iowa/Nebraska Branch.

In 2003, we started a new Branch in Kansas City, to serve Kansas, western Missouri, and Oklahoma.

In 2004, we started a new Branch in Dallas to serve Texas and the Maquiladoras area of Mexico.

In 2007, we started a robotic Integration company called Durabotics (which we eventually sold in 2009).

In 2008, we purchased a distributor of Fluid Power products in Houston called eFluidPower.

In 2014, we started a new Branch in Atlanta to serve Georgia.

As of January 1st, 2016, we purchased Advanced Pneumatics, an MDN sister company headquartered in Fredericksburg, Virginia with an additional Branch Office in Concord, North Carolina. With that acquisition, we now serve Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and eastern West Virginia (with limited products).
